ACFilm: All-Cellulose TFC structures for membrane applications

In ACFilm, we attempt to demonstrate entirely biobased thin-film composite (TFC) membrane structures without compromising their performance compared to fully synthetic commercial counterparts. The approach will be based on fine-tuning the structure of cellulosic coatings onto biobased substrates towards controlled porosity, flux, rejection rates, surface roughness and adhesion while simultaneously assuring required mechanical performance for pressure-driven filtration technologies. Scaled-up membrane fabrication will also be assessed as well as sustainability and techno-economic assessment (TEA) considered.
