Tailors of tomorrow: new materials inspired by nature

Updated: Aug 21, 2020

Associate Professor Jan Deska and Assistant Professor Jaana Vapaavuori at Aalto University share a source of inspiration: nature, and its ability to build almost anything out of the simplest ingredients.

Through multidisciplinary collaborative projects, researchers at Aalto are targeting sustainable and renewable solutions through new and improved materials. Learn more about collaboration and ways fundamental research is fueling the future!

Read about what these two tailors at Aalto have to say in their story from Aalto University Magazine (April 2020), and an interview with Vapaavuori in 2019, in which she shares another source of inspiration for her scientific research, the arts.

We also invite you to read more information about the Substainable consortia project (Multifunctional, high performance cellulose-based substrates for photovoltaics and optoelectronics) funded by the Tandem Forest Values programme.
