Updated: Dec 10, 2020

Hosted by the University of Jyväskylä and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd., this year’s TAPPI Progress in Paper Physics Seminar was held in a hybrid format for the first time during 1-3 September. The seminar welcomed people from across the globe, attracting participants from over 14 countries. With 24 people in Jyväskylä, and an additional 60 experts online, the event discussed developments in paper physics and chemistry.

Three plenary speakers offered historical perspectives and current innovations: Prof. Douglas W. Coffin (Miami University, Ohio, USA), Dr. Anna Suurnäkki (Metsä Fibre Oy), and Tom Lindström (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden).

In addition, the seminar included over 35 oral presentations and 10 posters. FinnCERES projects were presented by Research Team Leader Dr. Jarmo Kouko (VTT), Miia Palmu (Aalto University) and Principal Scientist Dr. Jukka Ketoja (VTT).

Chairpersons of the 2020 PPPS present the Best Poster Award. Jani Lehto, Tero Tuovinen, PPPS awardee Tiinamari Seppänen, and Jarmo Kouko.

The award for best poster went to Research Scientist Tiinamari Seppänen (VTT) for “Wet strength of the porous fiber materials”, which was presented using a virtual format: 3 minutes to introduce 3 slides and follow-up questions by attendees as well as the traditional A0 poster.
